Our alcohol-free pairings for vegetarian dishes

The modern vegetarian is demanding. They look for texture, seasoning, contrast. And they know that plant-based food is anything but bland. On the contrary, vegetarian dishes are full of flavours, colours and relief. That is why they deserve pairings to match. Alcohol-free drinks that know how to adapt, engage, draw inspiration from the plate.

A root vegetable gratin or a sweet potato pan-fry pairs perfectly with an alcohol-free amber beer, with notes of hazelnut or light caramel. A dealcoholised red wine, such as a pinot noir or grenache, will also work beautifully with vegetarian dishes featuring mushrooms or brown sauces. The depth of the dish calls here for supple tannins and aromas of undergrowth or stewed red fruits.

For fresher dishes — composed salads, raw vegetables, falafels —, an aromatic tonic or a herbal iced infusion will work wonders. Think of a drink with rosemary, peppermint or lemon basil. It is lively, thirst-quenching, and brings out the crunch of the dish.

Mediterranean dishes (ratatouille, vegetarian couscous, courgette gratins) call for sunny pairings. An alcohol-free IPA with citrus notes, a lemon thyme kombucha or a mocktail with tomato juice and mild spices will enhance the spiced and vegetal dimension of the dish.

More exotic vegetarian dishes, such as vegetable curries or dals, deserve enveloping yet fresh drinks. A shrub with passion fruit, a mango-coconut mocktail or a cold cardamom infusion can play this role. If you enjoy contrast pairings, a sparkling ginger drink will be perfect for livening up a mild or creamy dish.

And for lovers of grains and hearty bowls (rice, pulses, green vegetables), go for kombuchas. Their complex aromas and slight acidity echo the diversity of the dish without dominating it. A lovely way to elevate a simple meal to the level of a taste experience.

At Gueule de Joie, we believe that vegetarian indulgence deserves partners to match. Our alcohol-free cellar is brimming with inspired, vibrant drinks, crafted to elevate every veggie plate. Whether you are a fan of gratins, a raw food enthusiast or curious about spiced dishes, you will find in our selection a natural pairing… And a joyful one.

Drinking alcohol-free is also about respecting the spirit of the dish. And with plant-based food, the pairing is always achieved with finesse and intelligence.
