We begin our alcohol-free Tour de France where, for many, everything is at stake when it comes to wine: Bordeaux and the grand South-West. This is the region that seemed least likely to embrace alcohol-free — too attached to its grands crus, too proud of its labels. And yet it is here that some of the finest dealcoholised bottles in France are now to be found.
The reason is simple: here, we start with real wines, made by real winemakers, before removing the alcohol. The rest — the freshness, the fruit, the structure — is the work of the craft. Follow the guide: five producers, from the Bordeaux château to the Cognac distiller, to discover glass in hand.
The alcohol-free South-West — in brief: Château Clos de Boüard produces top-flight dealcoholised wines in Saint-Émilion (Prince Oscar, Eden); Moderato and UBY fly the flag for Gascony; Unaju brings organic bubbles to Bordeaux; Djin distils the spirit of plants near Cognac. Five producers, one shared refusal to compromise. Delivered within 72 hours across France, and now across Europe.
Château Clos de Boüard — a great Saint-Émilion name gone 0%
When a winemaker from the Angélus family takes on alcohol-free
She is the star of this stage, and for good reason. Coralie de Boüard, heir to Château Angélus, runs a 30-hectare family estate in Montagne Saint-Émilion — and she has launched an alcohol-free range that has set the whole wine world talking. The red Prince Oscar (Merlot and Cabernet Franc) was born from a specific commission: that of the Parc des Princes, which was looking for a great Bordeaux to serve without alcohol. The white Eden, 100% Sauvignon, completes the range with freshness and finesse.
The method doesn't cut corners: full fermentation, barrel ageing, then cold vacuum dealcoholisation to preserve the fruit. This is far removed from grape juice — it is a château wine, simply stripped of its alcohol.
💡 The wine shop's tip: serve Prince Oscar at around 15–16 °C, just like a real red, and let it breathe for a quarter of an hour. Eden is best served chilled (8 °C) as an aperitif or with fish.
The perfect pairing: Prince Oscar with grilled meat or a aged cheese; Eden with oysters, a ceviche or fresh goat's cheese.

Moderato — the Gascony that made alcohol-free wine grow up
A real wine first, careful dealcoholisation second
Founded in 2020 by Sébastien Thomas — from a family in the Cognac region — and Fabien Marchand-Cassagne, Moderato dealcoholises under vacuum at low temperature at the Chai Sobre, in the Gers, a technical facility the house helped bring into existence. Its grapes come from Gascony, and its range covers the whole summer: Merlot-Gros Manseng rosé, Colombard white, Merlot-Tannat red, sparkling.
And to measure how far things have come: it was Moderato that created, in early 2026, the dealcoholised version of Château Sigalas-Rabaud, premier grand cru classé of Sauternes. An alcohol-free sweet wine — the most difficult exercise of all.
💡 The wine shop's tip: start with the Merlot-Gros Manseng rosé, between 6 and 8 °C. For a special evening, the Sigalas-Rabaud cuvée is best enjoyed very chilled, like a sweet wine.
The perfect pairing: the rosé with grilled food and goat's cheese; the Sigalas-Rabaud cuvée with foie gras or an apricot dessert.

Domaine UBY — a family Gascony estate since 1920
A hundred years of Gascon terroir, now also available in a 0% version
In Cazaubon, in the Gers, the Morel family has been cultivating Domaine UBY since 1920 — three generations, now led by François Morel. It is one of the most medal-winning estates in the Côtes de Gascogne, recognised by its cistude turtle (a protected species that lives on the estate and which the house has committed to preserving). Night harvests, low-temperature vinification: the expertise is there, and it comes through in an organic-certified alcohol-free range, faithful to the aromatic freshness that is the hallmark of Gascon Colombard.
💡 The wine shop's tip: Gascony whites need to be very cold — 6–8 °C — to bring out their full zesty liveliness. It is the Gascon aperitif par excellence.
The perfect pairing: aperitif, summer salads, fish and seafood.

Unaju — sparkling Bordeaux, organic
The spirit of Bordeaux vines in an alcohol-free bubble
Founded in 2015 in Bordeaux by two agronomic engineers, the Manufacture Bordeaux creates with Unaju organic sparkling drinks that each pair a fruit with a plant — lime and ginger, blackcurrant and mint, yuzu and cucumber… No industrial process: the recipes are devised in Bordeaux, the ingredients come from French cooperatives, and there are no added flavourings, colourings or preservatives. This is modern alcohol-free aperitif drinking at its most pure.
💡 The wine shop's tip: serve very chilled, in a wine glass, as a replacement for a spritz or a white wine at aperitif time. These fine bubbles also make excellent bases for alcohol-free cocktails.
The perfect pairing: tapas, sharing boards, light summer cuisine.

Djin — the spirit of plants, distilled near Cognac
The first French alcohol-free spirit, and one of the most award-winning
In his workshop near Cognac, master liquorist and herbalist Romuald Vincent founded Djin Spirits in 2019 to meet the needs of bartenders seeking a genuine alcohol-free alternative. His "plant spirits" — organic, vegan, sugar-free and gluten-free — are based on the maceration and distillation of around twenty botanicals. His alcohol-free gin is one of the most awarded in the world. This is the bottle that proves a 0% spirit can be serious, dry and complex.
💡 The wine shop's tip: add a well-chilled tonic, plenty of ice and a citrus twist. The result is an alcohol-free "gin and tonic" of startling precision.
The perfect pairing: roasted almonds, olives, tapas — everything that goes with a proper aperitif.

Frequently asked questions
Is there really alcohol-free wine from Bordeaux?
Yes. Château Clos de Boüard, in Montagne Saint-Émilion, produces two dealcoholised wines — Prince Oscar (red) and Eden (white Sauvignon) — vinified and aged in barrel before cold dealcoholisation. A genuine Bordeaux, simply without alcohol.
Who are the best alcohol-free wine producers in the South-West?
Château Clos de Boüard (Bordeaux), Moderato and Domaine UBY (Gascony) are among the leading references. For aperitif time, Unaju (Bordeaux, organic sparkling) and Djin (spirits near Cognac) complete the regional picture.
Is alcohol-free red wine any good?
The good ones are. Red is the trickiest to dealcoholise, as alcohol carries much of its structure. A wine like Prince Oscar, vinified and aged in barrel before dealcoholisation, retains its fruit and tannins. Serve at around 15–16 °C.
