Alcohol-Free South Side

Like many classic cocktails, this cocktail appeared during Prohibition in the United States. Its precise origin is unknown — some say it was created at the 21 Club in New York, or in a bar in the south side of Chicago. What is certain is that it was one of the favourite cocktails of the gangsters of the era.

Ingredients

  • 6cl of alcohol-free Gin
  • 3cl of fresh lemon juice
  • 1.5cl of sugar syrup
  • 5–6 fresh mint leaves

Preparation

It is best to make this cocktail using a shaker, but don't worry, an empty jam jar works perfectly well. If you don't have either of those, you can make this cocktail directly in the glass.

If you have a shaker: Put all the ingredients in the shaker, add ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. Serve in a pre-chilled coupe glass.

If you don't have a shaker: In a large glass, add the mint leaves and sugar syrup, gently muddle. Add ice cubes and the remaining ingredients and stir well with a spoon. Serve in a coupe glass, straining through a small sieve.

You can garnish with a mint leaf.
